Vadnais Heights, MN. April 18, 2011: Jimmy’s IS the place to go for laughs. In recent months Jimmy’s Food and Drink/Conference center has been bringing laughs to the Twin Cities by the successful launching of Jason’s Comedy Show in the Oak leaf Ballroom. James Prouex, Owner of Jimmy’s Food and Drink, loves the sound of laughter and wanted to expand on his vision of fun. Proeux efforts have brought the old Oops Theatre out of retirement as its new addition to Jimmy’s. “We are very excited for our customers. This is an exciting addition to the community”, exclaims Prouex.
Jimmy’s kicks off it’s dinner theatre grand opening with “The Night Karaoke Died” written by Minnesota’s favorite comedy playwright Pamela Docken. The karaoke semi-finals at Jimmy's* Bar and Grill heat up when the finalists get ready to belt out their best in the hope of winning a free trip to Jimmy’s* cousin's lounge in Las Vegas! From the start nothing goes right. The emcee doesn't show up and Jimmy* is forced to run the show! The audience gets to choose the winner each night.
The fun starts when guests are greeted and served by interactive wait staff; along with specialty drinks and fantastic food served up buffet style. When the show begins the patrons meet the owner of Jimmy’s Bar and Grill* , who would rather have a root canal without Novocain than host a karaoke show; the Computer Nerd – who loves everything with a hard drive; the Bartender - has ties to the mafia and will bet on anything; Elvis - who channels Elvis beyond even Elvis's realm; Stephan, who wants nothing more in his life but Karaoke; Loretta Lovelost, Country Western star wanna be; Liz the Librarian, who transforms into Madonna when she sings; Suzie, Stephan's biggest cheerleader and Trixie, Jimmy's bowling glam girl with ties to the Mafia! Come dressed to support your favorite character to be entered into a drawing to win four tickets to an upcoming show. (*this is a fictional character, not the actual owner of Jimmy's’ Food and Drink)
Dominic Papatola, lead theatre critic from the St. Paul Pioneer Press notes, “… 'The Night Karaoke Died' is a light-hearted musical spoof on the annoying barroom phenomenon...”.
NJ Smith, Editor of Digitalcity.com writes, "...Triggered by the karaoke phenomenon, 'The Night Karaoke Died' is another comic contribution straight from the mind of Minnesota's own Pamela Docken. ..Docken's interactive musical spoof is based on a karaoke contest gone wrong... is beautifully executed by a talented cast of singing satirists. Docken's cleverly crafted interactive script allows for different endings based on which character the audience picks to win the contest..."
"The show itself, written by local talent Pamela Docken... is a hoot... behold, the power of Karaoke!" Heather Edwards, Staff Writer, Ramsey County Review.
